I Deleted Instagram…

I deleted Instagram from my phone for 2 weeks. Here’s what happened…

At first I found myself swiping to the second screen on my phone as my eyes darted around to find that orangy-pink icon that’s supposed to make you feel more connected to the world.

My thoughts became louder as they bounced in my brain because the space wasn’t occupied with someone else’s thoughts, moments, or picture-perfect life.

This silence created an odd sensation, like I must’ve been standing in a recording studio with fabric on the walls, all other sounds muffled so that my voice could be clear.

What did this voice say you wonder?

What if they forget about you?                                                                                                                 What if this time away undoes all you’ve worked for?                                                                       What happens if they choose to work with someone else because you’ve been gone?

But then things began to change. That antagonistic voice faded as the joyful sounds of my kids laughing grew louder. I soaked up the calming music in the background, the glow of the fire, the smell of comfort that came from the kitchen.

And I remembered.

These are the moments I’ve dreamt of and worked for.

This is my one life and you better believe I’m going to watch every special moment first-hand rather than watching it from behind my phone, trying to capture it so I can share it with the world.

Because my world is right here in front of me.

I don’t think social media is bad. I also recognize that it isn’t the best thing for me…

So cheers to more room for life offline! Cheers to more silence where your thoughts have space to turn into dreams and actions.

Remember, you have so much to offer as the person you are right now and it’s okay to take time away and to share those gifts with the people around you.

Happy New Year my friend. I’ll be seeing you!

xo, Liz
