How to Create a Profitable Multidimensional Business

It was a soul-crushing moment when my 8th grade Art Teacher, who doubled as the volleyball coach, called me into her classroom to break the news that I did not make the volleyball team.

"Unfortunately you can't overhand serve and you're not tall enough for the team... But Ellie still loves you!"

Ellie was her daughter that I babysat one time.

Ugh. Nothin like getting a bad blow followed by an even worse sympathy blow. Ever been there?

Overcoming Obstacles In Business

We run into challenges, blocks, and unexpected let-downs in business all the time. I like to consider challenges as opportunities in disguise because as Marie Forleo likes to say, “Everything is figuroutable.”

Want to start a brick & mortar? Or looking to move your in-person agency fully online? I believe that you can do anything you want to if you invest your time, money, and energy wisely. I’ve also seen it to be true with my clients who are multi-passionate and hold a big vision for their life and business.

In fact, one of my AMA alum, Kelsey, is a photographer, mentor, and interior designer. #badass right?! While her businesses could absolutely exist on their own with separate channels, Kelsey gets to meet and serve so many people all through one brand. The key? Her brand experience and messaging is dialed in for each audience!

How to Reach Multiple Audiences From One Platform or Presence

If you’ve worked with me in my marketing program or through Growth Week, we go deep into these topics and we create a strategy that’s customized to your business, lifestyle, and goals. For the sake of this blog post, my advice would be to do these three things.

1. Start by refining the client journey for each niche.

2. Keep your copy clear, simple, and focusing on one audience at a time.

3. Create an unparalleled client experience that keeps them coming back for more and more.

If you’re thinking, “That’s great Liz but I want a thought partner to help me strategize and implement!” then you should reach out to our team and we’ll find a time to connect.

Scaling A Multi-Dimensional Business

While your messaging and marketing is a key component in reaching your ideal audience(s), your internal processes, client experience, and support structure are what will make or break you in the long run.

Remember, the goal isn’t to build “fast food” businesses where we cook them up in 15 minutes to have them last even less time. We’re creating “farm-to-table” experiences and brands where everything is rooted, intentional, and set up to last for a long time.

Here’s the guidance I want to impart whether you’re working with me on the Agency or EDU side of the business.

1. Create a unique brand experience for each arm of your business.

Understand your customer’s needs, desires, behaviors, and create an experience that supports each niche. Your brand experience includes your strategy, content, visual identity, customer experience, and user experience.

2. Organize and optimize your systems, teams, and time.

Ever watch professional ping-pong players? My neck hurts just thinking about it! The last thing I want is for you to be shooting from task to task all the time, accomplishing little, and yet feeling burnt out. Spend time fleshing out your SOPs, optimizing workflows with your team, and reevaluating your CEO calendar for this season of life.

3. Surround yourself with support.

Just like a job ad that seeks one person to do the role of 10 people, you can’t expect to handle everything solo and be good at every aspect. Seek support from a strategic partner, get around other business owners who can push you, and let your friends stay friends, not your casual “this might work” biz mentor.

Where to get Support

I’m sure you have questions about how to start, expand, or shift into a multidimensional business models. Perhaps you’re expanding into the done-for-you space this year, growing your education platform, or maybe even getting into physical products. I’d love to help you shape your brand strategy, messaging, visuals, and marketing content so that it connects you with your audience.
